May 3, 2010 – Milton A. DeRienzo has joined Episcopal Social Services of New York (ESS) as Chief Financial Officer, and will oversee all financial and operational functions of the 179-year-old, $40 million human services agency.
Mr. DeRienzo most recently served as Executive Director for Business and Financial Management and Chief Financial Officer at New York City College of Technology, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). During his thirteen-year tenure there he was responsible for developing and implementing budgetary policy, risk-management plans, internal accounting controls, and management of the business and financial affairs of the college and its affiliated entities. He also served as liaison to external auditors, Boards, and city, state and federal officials on operational and financial matters. Mr. DeRienzo has also held a senior finance role as the Chief Accountant and Director of Operations for the multi-billion dollar NYC Fire Department Retirement System.
Mr. DeRienzo is a Certified Public Accountant with a BS in Accounting and Information Systems and in Economics and a Master of Science in Accounting from Queens College. Mr. DeRienzo was the recipient of the Leon Lowenstein Award for Administrative Accomplishments and earned a certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers’ Association.
Founded in 1831, ESS is a non-sectarian human services organization serving up to 5,000 of New York City’s most vulnerable citizens each year through programs in foster care and adoption, family preservation, early childhood education, after-school, group homes for developmentally disabled adults, and community re-integration of the formerly-incarcerated.
