Bios of Executive Team

Robert H. Gutheil, Executive Director:

With over 30 years of experience in New York social services, Mr. Gutheil joined ESS as Executive Director in 2004 and has already developed a significant expansion of services, especially in early childhood education and after school programs. He came to ESS after serving a number of years as Executive Director of The Salvation Army Social Services for Children. During his tenure there, Mr. Gutheil oversaw the expansion of high-quality programs into group homes for adolescents, residences for the developmentally disabled, foster boarding home care and adoption, day care centers, family preservation programs, and support services for people with HIV/AIDS. The Salvation Army has honored him with its prestigious National Award for Excellence in Social Work. Mr. Gutheil also has been awarded the Leadership Award by Life Services for the Handicapped and the Unsung Heroes Award by the Day Care Council of New York. He serves on both the Board and Downstate Steering Committee of the New York State Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA), and on the Boards of the Day Care Council of New York, United Neighbors of East Midtown, Life Services for the Handicapped, and Episcopal Community Services in America. He is Treasurer and a member of the Vestry of St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City. Previously he has been a member of the National Advisory Council of Executives for the Child Welfare League of America and served on the Vestry of St. Thomas Church in New York City and the Boards of Episcopal Charities and The Open Congregation.

Cordelia McNish, Assistant Executive Director, Early Childhood Services:

As Assistant Executive Director for Early Childhood Services, Ms. McNish oversees ESS' Day Care, Therapeutic Nursery, and Early Head Start Programs. Before joining ESS, she was a staff member of Sheltering Arms Children's Services for over 30 years, culminating in her tenure as Assistant Executive Director. In this capacity she oversaw programs and personnel serving nearly 800 children in preschool child care centers, family day care, preschool special education, Universal Pre-K, and other venues. A graduate of Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Ms. McNish received her MSW degree from Fordham University and she is a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State. Her previous professional activities include positions with the Visiting Nurse Association of Brooklyn and Harlem-Dolwing Children's Services of New York.

Eileen Weber, Chief Financial Officer:

Ms. Weber comes to ESS from The HealthCare Chaplaincy, Inc., where she served as Director of Finance and Administration. Prior to this, she was the Chief Operating Officer of the Women's Sports Foundation, with daily oversight of all administrative functions for the organization's national headquarters. A graduate of Pace University, Ms. Weber also holds an MBA from Fordham University, and a JD from the New York Law School. Ms. Weber's prior experience includes financial and administrative positions at Union Theological Seminary, Hunter College, the State University of New York, and Fordham University. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Society for Human Resources Management, the Labor/Management Board for the Employee Assistance Program at Hunter College, the Professional Obligations Committee at SUNY/Purchase, and various financial and administrative committees of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Kerry Hishta Hui, Director, Development and Communications:

A graduate of Georgetown University, Ms. Hui has twenty-five years of experience in the field of philanthropic and fundraising administration. She began her development career at Georgetown, where she worked in the University's Washington and New York City offices. Ms. Hui opened a development and alumni/ae relations office in Los Angeles for Georgetown before moving to Fairfield University. Her most recent position was a Director of Institutional Advancement at Marymount School in Manhattan. Ms. Hui has also been affiliated with other notable NYC non-profit organizations including the Corporation for Supportive Housing, Parsons School of Design, and the Leonard N. Stern School of Business of NYU.
